Anti-Terrorism Measures
Since the terrorist attacks against the U.S. on September 11, 2001, Korea has been actively participating in the international efforts to suppress the financing of terrorism. In accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution, the Korean Government has asked its financial institutions to examine if any of the organizations designated by the UN Security Council Committee(SCC) have financial assets in Korea and, if so, to place a virtual freeze on such assets by requiring residents and nonresidents to get permission from the Bank of Korea in order to make external payment to, or receive funds from them. The Korean government also signed the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism at UN Headquarters on October 9, 2001.
