Narration: Today is Valentine's Day, February 14th, the day when men and women confess their love to one another. Jae-Min is out on an errand for his dad, and he is fascinated by everything!

Jae-Min: Wow! The human world has special days too? There sure are a lot of kinds of chocolate!

Jae-Min: Huh? Isn't that Se-Na over there? Se-Na! Hey!

Se-Na: Hi, Jae-Min!

Jae-Min: What are you doing here?

Se-Na: Today's Valentine's Day. I was just giving chocolate to some of my friends! Did you get any?

Jae-Min: No, not yet...

Se-Na: Really? Then this is for you!

Jae-Min: Wow, are you really giving me this?

Se-Na: Of course! But don't get any wrong ideas! I'm just giving it to you as a friend. (Haha, so you'd better give me some next year!)

Jae-Min: I wasn’t expecting this at all! I'm way surprised! Thanks!

Se-Na: Wow, I didn't know it would make you that happy!

Jae-Min: (This is the first time anyone's given me a gift here, in the human world!!) Well, it's really nice of you.

Se-Na: I'm glad. Well, I have to go home now! Enjoy your chocolate!

Jae-Min: I will! Thanks!

Narration: Se-Na seems quite pleased with herself for having given Jae-Min that chocolate!

Se-Na: Dad! Mom! Se-Mi!

Se-Na‘s dad: Se-Na! Slow down! You're going to fall over and hurt yourself!

Se-Na: Dad, I got some chocolate for you! Se-Mi! Here's some for you, too! Mom! Mom! Do you want some chocolate?

Se-Mi: Really? You have some for me, too?

Se-Na: Of course!

Se-Na‘s mom: Se-Na! What's gotten into you? Gosh! Look at all this chocolate! Just how much did you buy?

Se-Na: Mom, I ran into Jae-Min on the way home and I gave him some, too. He was so happy! I can't believe how happy he was!

Se-Na‘s mom: Alright, alright... But do you know what time it is? Why are you home so late? And how much did all this chocolate cost? Where did you get the money to buy so much?

Se-Na: Well, with today being Valentine's Day, I thought it would be nice if we all had lots of chocolate to eat! See! Look how happy Se-Mi is!

Se-Na‘s mom: Yes, but still! Where did you get the money to buy it?

Se-Na‘s dad: Honey, give her a break. She said she got it for us. Relax and have some of the chocolate your daughter bought you.

Se-Na‘s mom: No, I'm not going to relax! I gave her her allowance yesterday, and now she's gone and spent it all!

Se-Mi: That sounds like you, Se-Na. Didn't you spend your whole allowance buying your classmates candy last Halloween?

Se-Na: Shush! I'll take that chocolate back if you don’t appreciate it.

Se-Na‘s dad: Se-Na, let me tell you something.

Se-Na: What, dad?

Se-Na‘s dad: It's very kind of you to get nice things for us and your friends, but it doesn't look like you're really making the most out of your allowance.

Se-Na: Huh?

Se-Na‘s mom: Tell us now. You went ahead and spent all this month's allowance already, didn't you?

Se-Na: No, mom, I still have like \2,000 left!

Se-Na‘s mom: You're joking... I bet you were going to ask me for more, weren't you?

Se-Na: ……

Se-Na‘s dad: Well then, what did you spend last month's allowance on?

Se-Na: Umm... I got some candy and ice cream... and I'm not sure about the rest.

Se-Na‘s mom: Se-Na!

Se-Na‘s dad: Se-Na, I want you to go to your room now and write down for us what you think you've done wrong.

Se-Na: What? But, Dad! I didn't do anything wrong!

Se-Na‘s dad: Yes, I know. You haven't done anything wrong exactly. But I think you and we need to know how you're spending your allowance.

Se-Na‘s mom: Yes, Se-Na, do what your father says. We want to know how you spend your money! Otherwise, no more allowance.

Se-Na: But I don't want to... Boohoo...

Narration: Oh, no! It looks like Se-Na's parents are really upset about how she's been spending her allowance. Let's hope she learns what she did wrong through this!

Jae-Min: Isn't it good, Dad?

Jae-Min's dad: Yes, it really is.

Jae-Min: I never knew there was anything this tasty in the human world!

Jae-Min's grandpa: What's it called again?

Jae-Min: Chocolate. It's what boys and girls give each other on Valentine's Day.

Jae-Hee: Well, did a girl give you this then?

Jae-Min: Uh-huh, hehe.

Jae-Hee: Is that right? What girl?

Jae-Min: My friend from school.

Jae-Min's dad: Well, she certainly sounds like a good friend! Stay friends with her, Jae-Min! What a lovely girl, giving you chocolate and all...

Jae-Min: I will!

Jae-Hee: Shouldn't you give her something, too?

Jae-Min: Do you think so?

Jae-Hee: Well, I think so... May be you can use your magic to get her something really cool!

Jae-Min's dad: I told you we can't use magic in the human world!

All: R.. Right!

Jae-Hee: Hmm...? I hear some sound coming from your room, Jae-Min. Isn't that your MSN?

Jae-Min: Yeah! I was supposed to talk to Kang-Ho online today.

Jae-Min: Huh? It's not Kang-Ho.

Jae-Min: It's Se-Na! Well, since we all had some of your nice chocolate, I've got something for you, too. Cyber money!

Narration: Uh-oh, it looks like Jae-Min's about to use his magic to give Se-Na some chestnuts!

Jae-Min: Huh? Why isn't it working?

Narration: Actually, Jae-Min's dad has cast a spell that stops Jae-Min and Jae-Hee from using magic at home. It looks like Jae-Min hasn't caught on yet!

Jae-Min: So magic doesn't work on the internet? Well, I'll just use my allowance then!

Jae-Min: Haha! Se-Na will be stoked to see this. Cool! Hmm... but my blog looks so plain and boring compared to Se-Na's. I'd better work on it a little...

Narration: Here we go, Jae-Min is decorating his blog now. He's put a small but cozy garden and a living room full of sunlight! And he has an avatar that looks just like him! Wow, it's looking really great now!

Jae-Min: Hey...I know I’m the one who made it, but still... This really is something! I can't wait to go to school tomorrow and tell everyone about it!

Jae-Hee: Jae-Min, I really need to borrow \2,000. You have money, right?

Jae-Min: Huh? Actually, I don't.

Jae-Hee: What? But dad just gave you your allowance a couple days ago.

Jae-Min: Yeah, but I bought chestnuts.

Jae-Hee: Chestnuts? You spent all your allowance on chestnuts?

Jae-Min: Yeah, so?

Jae-Hee: Well, you can't spend money like that in the human world!

Narration: Wow! So Jae-Min has spent all his monthly allowance on decorating his blog!

Jae-Hee: Dad! Dad! Jae-Min's spent his allowance already! You'd better tell him off!

Narration: Good grief! Jae-Min and Se-Na are both in the same predicament! Valentine's Day is supposed to be a fun day, not a day like this!!!

Students: Good morning!

Teacher: Good morning, everyone! I have some bad news. There was an accident last night, and a student from another school had his house burn down. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but since he doesn't have anywhere to go or anything to wear now, I thought it would be nice if we collected donations for him. What do you guys think?

Students: Yeah! That sounds like a great idea!

Teacher: That's the spirit! You guys are wonderful!

Jae-Min: Whoa! What am I going to do? I spent all my allowance on chestnuts. My dad really told me off!

Se-Na: Really? I don't have any money, either. But my mom will give me some more.

Kang-Ho: What? Don't you guys get an allowance every month?

Jae-Min: Yeah.

Se-Na: So?

Song-I: Have you spent it all already?

Se-Na: That's what an allowance is for. Spending.

Jae-Min: That's right!

Kang-Ho: You have to budget your spending, you guys!

Se-Na: Budget?

Song-I: What are you going to do for unexpected things, like the donation today? We're old enough now to be sensible with our money.

Kang-Ho: Yeah! You should only spend your allowance on things you need. You save the rest!

Se-Na: Well, how are you doing with your saving?

Kang-Ho: Good! Actually, I've been keeping a budget book since last year.

Jae-Min: What's a budget book?

Song-I: Wait, do I have enough money to make a donation?

Song-I: Hey! My dad's birthday's coming up this month! I should be able to get him something with the \14,000 I've saved and still have enough left to make a donation.

Narration: Wow! Song-I's really good at keeping track of her spending. What a good girl!

Kang-Ho: See, look! Song-I's writing in her budget book now.

Song-I: You guys have never seen a budget book before? Here, look. This is income and this is expenses. See how I write down my income and spending?

Se-Na: Bah! Looks like gibberish to me!

Kang-Ho: Don't be so ignorant. It's a great way to keep track of your money.

Jae-Min: Really? How?

Kang-Ho: It works the same way as a diary.

Se-Na: Well, actually, after my mom and dad got mad at me, I had to write down what I'd spent my allowance on, and I realized I'd bought pencils, erasers, and a bunch of other stuff I didn't even need.

Song-I: So you learned something after all? Haha! That's like keeping a budget book!

Jae-Min: I only got a telling-off. But it's the same with me. I always go crazy and spend a lot when I get my allowance.

Kang-Ho: How you spend your allowance is more important than how much you get. What did you spend all your money on, Jae-Min?

Jae-Min: I decorated my blog, and I bought a hat, and some elastic bands...

Song-I: Well, well... What's the use of decorating a blog you don't even use that often? And why buy a hat you don't even wear that much?

Se-Na: Yeah, hmmm... I wonder why I spend money on things I don't even need?

Song-I: Yeah! That's why you don't have money to help out a friend or make a donation!

Kang-Ho: Actually, I was just like you guys before I started writing in my budget book. I would spend all the money I had. But then I realized I should really think about the things I bought and also plan ahead for special events like birthdays and stuff.

Se-Na: Song-I, can I see your budget book?

Jae-Min: Me, too!

Narration: Why is Se-Na starting to look disappointed?

Se-Na: Whoa! All the money I've spent so far was a big waste!

Jae-Min: Yeah! I really could have spent mine on more useful things!

Narration: Spending your allowance wisely is not about buying things you want all at once. It’s about planning and budgeting your money accordingly! Remember that keeping a budget book will make it really easy for you to do that!
